Danisco Focuses on Very Low-Income Groups
Regions like Latin America and Asia have a huge number of very low-income consumers. Danisco now targets food products for this group of consumers so they can afford healthy and safe food with a long shelf life.
07 Oct 2009 --- The increasing urbanisation in regions like Latin America and Asia creates a huge market for processed food to consumers with very low incomes. Danisco will now focus on Latin America and offer solutions making it possible for low-income consumers living on only a few US dollars a day to buy safe, processed food with a long shelf life at lower prices.
This is also known as the ‘affordable food segment’ offering more consumers an opportunity to buy food they would not otherwise have been able to afford. For example, bread baked with relatively cheap local flour where the use of enzymes and emulsifiers can increase the quality of the finished bread and ensure that the price of the bread is kept at a minimum.
’Our solutions make it possible to reduce the volume of expensive raw materials and ensure that the consumers can afford to buy nutritional food that they could not otherwise afford. The increasing urbanisation creates a need for industrially produced food that is safe and has a long shelf life. We offer solutions to meet this trend,’ says Conny Twisttmann, Application Director at Danisco.
To begin with, Danisco will focus on Latin America in collaboration with major customers, but countries like India and the rest of Asia with around three billion consumers in this income group are also under consideration.
