Cargill to Extend Oilseed Crush Capacity
Salzgitter Mainz and Riesa capacities to increase by 50%.
25/01/2005 Cargill plans to increase the capacities of its oilseed crush in Salzgitter, Mainz and Riesa by 50% to approximately 1.5 million tons to meet the increasing demand from the biodiesel and foodstuffs sectors. The enterprise will see an additional several million euro invested in each location. Hermann Steep, the commercial director/superintendent of the plants in Salzgitter and Mainz, says: "This expansion is in response to not only the increased demand for biodiesel, but also to help us better serve the food and feed customers in terms of quality, product safety and flexibility.” Steep said that the move was good news for Cargill’s customers, employees and local farmers, from whom the company buys approximately 80% of its raw materials. Work will begin in the summer at all three locations and it is intended that all facilities will have had their capacity increased by 2006.
