Cambridge Commodities acquires US-based Ultimate Superfoods’ ingredient business
The move is the company’s second acquisition of an organic food company
08 Apr 2020 --- Global ingredient supplier Cambridge Commodities has acquired the ingredient business of US organic food company Ultimate Superfoods. Following the acquisition, Ultimate Superfoods’ raw and organic superfood ingredient business will merge with the US arm of Cambridge Commodities operating under the Cambridge Commodities Group.
The deal will provide Ultimate Superfoods with access to Cambridge Commodities' approved supplier base of quality ingredients, its NPD expertise and technical teams. The move will also allow Ultimate Superfoods to expand its stock holding from raw and organic superfoods to include vegan and dairy proteins, natural extracts and fruit and vegetable powders.
“We welcome the team at Ultimate Superfoods into the Cambridge Commodities family as this venture grows our business operations in the US,” says Neil Hammill, Commercial Director of Cambridge Commodities. “The addition of Ultimate Superfoods will enhance our superfood offering and support our mission of providing customers with quality nutritional ingredients and healthier innovation to improve well-being in the US and the rest of the world.”
The Cambridge Commodities US head office is located in Northern California, also home to their 6,000 plus pallet warehousing facility.
Director of Sales at Ultimate Superfoods David Cody Evans says, “Together we'll be able to increase our warehousing capability and have access to a global team of knowledge and ingredients to expand our offering to our customers.”
Cambridge Commodities is celebrating its 22nd year of supplying quality nutritional ingredients to the health and well-being, sports nutrition, food and drink and animal nutrition industries globally.
With their acquisition of Earth Circle Ingredients in July 2018, their foothold in the US is only on the rise as they continue to invest into their global endeavors. Following the acquisition, Earth Circle Organics’ raw and organic superfood ingredient business merged with the US arm of Cambridge Commodities to create a new division, operating as Earth Circle Ingredients.
The deal provided Earth Circle Ingredients with access to Cambridge Commodities’ approved supplier base for over 2500 nutritional ingredients.
Speaking to FoodIngredientsFirst at the time, Ian Mitchell, Financial Director of Cambridge Commodities said: “The aim is to double the size of the business in the next four years through both organic growth and by acquisition. We are aiming to have a US$50 million turnover business in the US in five years.”
