Brewery Ommegang Introduces Rosetta Belgian Kriek
05 Oct 2015 --- San Antonio, TX – Sour beers are a delicious and highly sought after style in the craft beer community. San Antonio’s Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling has just released a new sour beer as part of their Small Batch Series, and it won’t last long. Limited quantities of Small Batch Series No. 11, their apricot sour, hit retail shelves on Friday, September 25. Given the success of the brewery’s previous sour beers, the bottles will be sold out in the next 2-3 weeks.
Small Batch Series No. 11 is 8.4% ABV and was aged in barrels for over a year. During the barrel aging process, souring agents were introduced to give the beer complex tart, earthy, and oaky notes. In the beer’s last month of aging, over 25 pounds of fresh apricots were added to every barrel. This gave the body of the beer a sweet, juicy character upfront while maintaining a complex spicy and dry finish. When consumed fresh the beer has a piquant apricot and melon aroma that is backed by the warming vanilla from the oak along with earthy and funky tones from the barrel. The brewery encourages people to treat the beer like a fine wine; enjoy one now and save a few to cellar as this beer will continue to mature in the bottle. The bottles are wax dipped to protect them from the elements during cellaring. The suggested retail price per bottle is $7.99.
Ranger Creek’s Small Batch Series is a line of seasonal single batch brews designed to be unique, interesting, and experimental. Each one is made in small quantities and with a completely different recipe. Ranger Creek only brews one batch of each Small Batch Series release. As a result, quantities are very limited, and once the bottles are gone they will be gone for good. Ranger Creek’s previous barrel aged sour releases (Small Batch Series No. 6 and Small Batch Series No. 9) both sold out quickly, so collectors are encouraged to seek out bottles quickly.
Small Batch Series No. 11 showcases a new Small Batch label design. The first 10 releases in the series all had a common label theme, and releases 11-20 will feature the new design. Each release is identifiable by a unique color incorporated into the label design.
