Jan 20 2012 --- BENEO-Institute announces BENEO’s 2nd European Scientific Symposium. The symposium, which will focus on prebiotic fibres and functional carbohydrates in science and regulation, will be held on 12th and 13th March in Heidelberg at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).
Following the success of the 1st European Scientific Symposium in Brussels in 2008, the BENEO-Institute has brought together leading academics to share their latest updates from a scientific perspective, as well as to address the legislative environment in the EU in this context. The event will be chaired by Natalie Delzenne, Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium and Daniel König, University of Freiburg, Germany, all of whom will be presenting at the Symposium. Other key speakers that will be presenting at the event include:
• Jeya Henry, Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences, Singapore
• Julie M. Jones, University of Minnesota, USA
• Rob Rastall, University of Reading, UK
• Moritz Hagenmeyer, University of Hanover, Germany
Attendees at the symposium can expect information on the following topics:
• Physiological importance of carbohydrates with a low glycaemic response for the human body
• Options to reduce the glycaemic properties of food
• The effects of the European legislation in light of EU Health Claim regulations
• New perspectives on what constitutes healthy human gut microbiota
• The role of prebiotic fibres in weight management and infant nutrition
Anke Sentko, Vice President Regulatory Affairs and Nutrition Communication at BENEO, says: “We are proud to announce this second BENEO Scientific Symposium. The BENEO-Institute is dedicated to providing regulatory and nutritional information to our customers, researchers, nutritionists and opinion formers alike. The high calibre of speakers we have lined up at this symposium promises to provide attendees with the latest findings regarding functional carbohydrates and prebiotic fibres.”
