BayerCropScience to Launch Two New High Yield Canola Hybrids
In Western Canada Canola/Rapeseed Recommending Committee (WCC/RRC) public co-op trials in 2007/2008, InVigor 5770 showed yields averaging an eye-popping 135% of the checks. InVigor Health 1145 showed yields averaging an impressive 133%.
29/06/09 BayerCropScience has unveiled two new InVigor canola hybrids that it will launch during this fall's booking period for the 2010 growing season. Trials indicate one of them is on track to set yet another yield record for canola, while the other brings the signature InVigor yield performance to another specialty oil hybrid.
"InVigor canola hybrids continue to lead the canola seed industry in yield and with the commercial availability of InVigor 5770 and InVigor Health 1145 next year, the bar will be set even higher," said Brad Ewankiw, Marketing Manager for Oilseeds for Bayer CropScience Canada. "With what we've seen in field trials, there's no doubt our breeding program is second to none."

Noting that InVigor 5770 and 1145 will also prove their mettle in this year's Prairie Canola Variety Trials (PCVTs), Ewankiw pointed out that the Canola Council-managed PCVTs are the most reliable independent measure of canola yield performance. InVigor canola hybrids earned the top seven yield positions in the 2008 PCVTs - the sixth consecutive year in the top spot, maintaining an unbroken string as the top yielder every year since the inception of the PCVTs in 2003.
InVigor 5770 is a late maturing canola hybrid, best suited for the long to mid-season growing regions of the Prairies. It is rated resistant to blackleg.
InVigor Health 1145 will be the newest hybrid developed through the alliance Bayer CropScience has with Cargill Specialty Canola Oils. InVigor Health 1145 is a high yielding specialty oil canola that will be sold through Cargill and selected Independent Retails. It is a mid-late maturing canola hybrid, best suited for the long- to mid-season growing regions of the Prairies and is also resistant to blackleg.
InVigor hybrids are the most popular canola seeded on the Prairies, accounting for a significant amount of the canola acreage seeded this year.
