Avebe Becomes the Latest Company to Pull Out of FiE
30 Nov 2015 --- In the wake of the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and increased security in the Paris area due to the COP21 UN Climate Change Summit there this week, over 30 food ingredients manufacturers have decided to pull out of Food Ingredients Europe, the world’s largest ingredients show, which starts in Paris tomorrow (December 1).
Despite this positive outlook, several companies have decided to abandon the show, citing the safety of their staff as the main reason. Dutch potato-derived ingredients firm Avebe was the latest to announce it was withdrawing. In a statement, it said: “Avebe has come to the difficult decision not to attend the Food ingredients Europe exhibition, starting on December 1 in Paris. We are responsible for the safety our employees and visiting business partners. Due to the extra security and transport measures associated with COP21 and, in response to the shocking events in recent weeks, we find it unacceptable to ask our employees to travel to, in and around Paris at this moment in time.”
More than 30 exhibitors, including ingredients giants ADM and Ingredion, have decided not to attend the show following the terror attacks in Paris on Friday 13th November, in which 130 people were killed by terrorists acting for so-called Islamic State. Despite increased security in the city of Paris and in and around the exhibition site, many companies are reluctant to put their staff in a position of potential danger.
