Nutress Launches New Micro Algae Strain
02 Mar 2015 --- Nutress BV, a global leader in producing large scale food grade micro algae products for the feed, food and pharma industry, has launched its second algae strain; Chlorella vulgaris.
Besides the existing production of Chlorella sorokiniana, Nutress has started the large scale cultivation of the fresh water micro algae strain Chlorella vulgaris. The final R&D phase has led to the large scale food grade cultivation process.
Nutress starts the mass cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris within its world’s unique proprietary cultivation system. With this new strain Nutress further opens the opportunity of making high value food available with exceptional nutritional potential. The new algae strain is rich in specific nutrients like amino acids, fatty acids and anti-oxidants like lutein. Specific nutrient demands will be carried out upon request.
Nutress told FoodIngredientsFirst, “Our Chlorella vulgaris is used as a supplement, food additive and as such is seen as a whole food. It can also be used as a colouring and as a foodstuff in its own right.
“The diverse products will be available in March as nutraceuticals and powder as a food ingredient.
“We have also seen the interest in the feed market (poultry and fishery market).”
By diversifying its range with micro algae products, Nutress has answered the need of customers and consumers and further extends its position as a global player in food, feed and pharma industries. With the cultivation of Chlorella vulgaris Nutress already opened the way for the sale of the first batches to allocated end clients within the coming months.
“Thanks to this new strain, Nutress broadens its commercial opportunities in diverse areas,” said chief executive Reinier Smit. “We are convinced that our cultivation method contributes in making good food available for everyone.”
The newest algae strain is offered to various business segments ranging from feed and food to the nutraceutical and cosmetic industry. The most common known formulas such as powder, tablets and capsules are available and more innovative applications will be launched soon.
