Lallemand and Decas Team Up on Highly Concentrated Cranberry Extract
Cranberries are widely documented for their protective effects on the urinary tract, due to unique anti-adhesion activity. This activity is primarily due to the presence of natural antioxidant molecules: proanthocyanidins (PACs).
22/04/09 Lallemand Health Ingredients and Decas Botanical Synergies are introducing CystiCran, their latest premium cranberry ingredient. CystiCran is the highest concentrated commercially available cranberry extract, with a guaranteed minimum content of 30% proanthocyanidins (PACs). Not only this, but comparative analysis of commercially available cranberry extracts have revealed that CystiCran contains the highest percentage of A-type PACs, the compounds responsible for the cranberry unique anti-adhesive properties. Each batch of CystiCran is analysed, PACs content measured with Ph. Eur. 5.0, and the exact PAC value is provided on the certificate of analysis.
Nicolai Jensen, General Manager of Lallemand Health Ingredients, comments: “Today, the market for cranberry products to support urinary tract health continues to grow at a steady pace. As pharmaceutical companies gain interest in entering this profitable product segment, the demand for quality cranberry extracts with high amount of proanthocyanidins continues to rise. Our sustained R&D efforts with partner Decas Botanical Synergies to develop high quality cranberry ingredients solutions aim at meeting this demand”. He added: “We have made a benchmark test of all commercially available cranberry extracts and the conclusions were that CystiCran not only contained the highest amount of PACs of all products analysed, but also the highest percentage of A-linked PACs.”
Urinary tract infections, characterised by elevated recurrence rates, affect million of women in the world. Cranberries are widely documented for their protective effects on the urinary tract, due to unique anti-adhesion activity. This activity is primarily due to the presence of natural antioxidant molecules: proanthocyanidins (PACs). PACs are present in other plants, but cranberry have been shown to contain a unique A-type PAC, while most other fruits contain the more common B-type PACs. Researchers have linked the presence of A-type PAC in cranberry to its unique anti-adherence effects
To learn more about the important quality aspects of cranberry powders and extracts with regard to qualification and quantification of proanthocyanidins, visitors to Vitafoods International are invited to attend our Cranberry Ingredients seminar on May, 6th at 14.30 in Conference Room E of the Palexpo Conference Center in Geneva.
