Organic Erythritol
Organic erythritol is non-cariogenic and does not promote tooth decay, a benefit that appeals to health-conscious consumers.
Cargill has introduced organic erythritol, which the company says will increase options for food manufacturers targeting consumers who seek out all-natural products. Erythritol, a zero-calorie, zero-glycaemic index bulk sweetener appeals to weight-conscious consumers and diabetics because it doesn’t contribute calories and has no effect on blood sugar levels. Organic erythritol is non-cariogenic and does not promote tooth decay, another benefit that appeals to health-conscious consumers.
“Our customers have had great success developing new products based on erythritol’s all-natural, no-calorie characteristics. Now the organic version opens the door for them to develop products that appeal to a new group of health conscious consumers”, said Ron Perko at Cargill North America.
According to Cargill, with 70 percent of the sweetness of sugar, erythritol is very clean-tasting and enhances the flavour, texture and quality of organic, reduced-calorie foods including beverages and bakery items. Compared to sugar in baked goods, erythritol exhibits different melting behaviour, more compact dough, better moisture control and softer baked products. Other applications include dairy products and confectionery including sugar-free chocolate.
