Gerard Trivier tells FoodIngredientsFirst: "The new Sevarome range are made using natural flavors, with leaves and flower notes and we also have some new organic prodcuts. There is a big trend towards floral flavors, and vanilla."

Organic green light for red colors: IFF’s Frutarom Division secures certification for annatto extracts

08 Feb 2019 --- Frutarom Natural Solutions Ltd., a division of International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF), has received organic certification for its natural annatto color. The ingredient was granted organic certifications from both the US Department of Agriculture and The European Organic Certifiers Council. The move comes amid rising consumer demand for fairtrade, sustainable and organic products.

Fresh fruit and vegetable ingredients for a range of applications

Paula Ingredients presented their fruit and vegetable powers at HiE in Frankfurt at the end of last year. Speaking to FoodIngredientsFirst, Katarzyna Magiera says: “Our portfolio is quite big, we have dried fruit and vegetable powder and pieces, which are totally natural products. We try to base our ingredients on fresh, raw materials and then we dry them, thanks to our advanced technology. The final product keeps the color and structure and when you compare the final product with the raw material they are very similar. They are all natural without any preservatives and can be used in any application, including ice cream, confectionery and bakery. Legumes are becoming more popular, chickpeas, for examples, can be used as snack ingredients and as additional ingredients and they fit with the plant-based and clean label trends.”

50:50 hybrid plant and animal-based protein applications

Making 50/50 so-called “hybrid” products could mean a big step towards more plant-based proteins in our diet, without noticing any difference. Meatless products can be used in any processed product, like chicken nuggets, sausages, meatballs or ready-made meals. Though vegetarian sales are growing healthily, a combination of plant- and meat-based proteins could boost a transition towards more plant-based protein in our diet in a big way, in addition to fully vegetarian options, according to the company. Speaking to FoodIngredientsFirst, Meatless CEO, Jos Hugense explains: “We have four principal varieties; wheat, fava beans, lupin and rice. We use whole natural foods only and the products are clean label and GMO-free. The rice variety is hypoallergenic and organic is available for all four raw materials.”
