Cargill AgHorizons to Acquire Shullsburg, Wis. Grain Elevator

21/10/05 Cargill AgHorizons announced today that it has signed a letter of intent with the Wiegel Group to acquire the Wiegel grain elevator in Shullsburg, Wis. Located 30 miles east of Dubuque, Iowa, the Schullsburg grain elevator is equipped with a grain dryer and features a 4-million-bushel storage capacity, making it the single largest grain storage unit in the state of Wisconsin. The elevator is currently owned by Joseph and Donna Wiegel.

Pending approvals of the acquisition agreement, Cargill AgHorizons will commence storing grain sourced from the region at the 21-year-old facility in time for this fall’s harvest.

“Given the grain storage pressures impacting producers throughout the region, we are pleased to have reached agreement with the Wiegel Group,” said Cargill AgHorizons Farm Service Group Manager Fred Oelschlaeger. “This asset provides us with new storage capacity and the added flexibility in serving both export and domestic grain markets, while expanding the geography in which we can offer Cargill AgHorizons’ range of grain marketing solutions for producers.”
“We are pleased with the transition of this business to Cargill AgHorizons and welcome the many services and benefits that they will provide to area producers,” said Joe Wiegel of the Wiegel Group.
