Meurens Natural Launches Clean Label Oat Syrup
11 Oct 2016 --- Belgian supplier Meurens Natural is strengthening its clean label solutions with the launch of a sugar substitute, an oat syrup range for bakery applications. As the trend for natural, traceable and transparent food continues to grow globally, Meurens Natural taps into clean label solutions with a new range of syrups and hydrolyzed flour made of oat.
These original and natural ingredients enable several different functionalities including sweetness, sugar substitution, glucose syrup substitution, cereal taste, natural color, crispness, proteins and higher cereal value limiting the viscosity.
On top of this, the one big advantage is they offer a much more natural labeling opportunity; oat syrup instead of sugar or glucose syrup.
Speaking with FoodIngredientsFirst, managing director of Meurens Natural Bénédicte Meurens explains how the clean labeling trend is driving natural solutions for sugar substitutes and how the new oat syrup range taps into the growing global demand for less processed alternatives.
“We have launched this new range and we are offering a different kind of syrup to bring sweetness and an oat taste and a natural color as well. There are also some technical functionalities like viscosity and so on and it is really interesting for applications in bakery products for things like biscuits, cereal bars, for breakfasts all these kinds of products,” she tells us.
“It’s really interesting with the labeling because you may label this product as oat syrup and that fits in with the clean labeling trend so instead of labeling sugar or glucose syrup, we can label for oat syrup. This is one of the biggest advantages we can have right now.”
“Another advantage is in our process production where we keep the maximum characteristics of the raw material like the color, the taste and the minerals. During our process production we process without any chemical additives or chemical process and this is the non-refining which is another big advantage of our process production.”
Meurens Natural is specialist in the use of natural techniques to process cereals and dried fruits into the required ingredients. It does not use refining processes, but instead focuses on clean and simple processes that respect the environment and allows the characteristics of the raw materials to be preserved as much as possible.
The Natur range includes many other syrups made of rice, oats, dates, figs, prunes, date puree and cereal puree and it will be showcased at the forthcoming HIE-NI 2016 in Germany.
“I think the oat syrup is really in line with the desires of the consumer in terms of offering more natural labeling and the objective of this product is to be as less processed as possible and it really offers an answer to the concerns and the interests of the consumer.”
