Allulose advance: Ingredion forms Americas partnership with Matsutani

06 Dec 2018 --- Ingredion has entered into a relationship with Matsutani Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., Japan’s leading producer of specialty ingredients. The company will manufacture ASTRAEA Allulose in Mexico and market it across the Americas. The on-trend ingredient is 70 percent as sweet as sugar and helps manufacturers reduce sucrose in their recipes and develop reduced-calorie food and beverages to meet growing consumer demand.

Ingredient innovation beyond beverages

ADM’s specialty ingredients business is targeting new innovation platforms for growth, including savory solutions, as the unit moves far beyond their traditional beverage base. WILD Flavors & Specialty Ingredients (WFSI), the legacy Wild business is using SIAL 2018, which ends today in Paris, to highlight a complete range of concepts featuring ingredients from across the ADM portfolio, for complete new product synergy. “ADM’s nutrition division is now positioned as a new ingredient solution provider, not just for beverages, as in the past. We are delivering food solutions and also expertise for different segments in the food and beverage industry,” Bastian Hörmann – Product Manager Food EMEAI notes at the Paris event.

Active flavors for sugar and fat reduction

At Vitafoods Asia in Singapore, Sylvain Delanghe discussed with FoodIngredientsFirst the company's new active flavors for sugar and fat reduction. Metarom debuted a flavor modification blend that can be used to lower the fat content of baked goods. When applied in synergy with a sweetness solution, the “active” flavors can effectively reduce the fat content of a pound cake by 50 percent and the sugar content by 30 percent, while maintaining the organoleptic properties and sweetness of the reference product.

New Ingredient Solution for Digestive Health

Indena is bringing at Vitafoods 2017 Prodigest, its latest innovation for natural digestive relief. Prodigest is a patented combination of two standardized ingredients: a unique extract of artichoke leaves (Cynara cardunculus L.) and a similarly unique lipophilic CO2 extract of ginger roots (Zingiber officinale Rosc.). To develop Prodigest, Indena redesigned these two well-known extracts to create a product which is backed up by exhaustive clinical data supporting both its functionality (gastric emptying) and effectiveness (relief of discomforts). The inventive synergy of artichoke leaves and ginger extracts developed by Indena has been proven to be more effective than the two single extracts separately. Two recent human clinical studies with Prodigest have shown improved gastric motility symptoms related to digestive discomforts, known to cause gastric fullness, pain, bloating and nausea.
