Aug 25 2010 --- The European Commission has approved the acquisition by VION of some of the assets of beef producer Weyl Beef Products from Enschede which was declared bankrupt on 20 May 2010. On 2 July 2010, VION signed an agreement to acquire parts of Weyl's assets, and submitted the acquisition to the competition authorities for approval. VION will now detail how to incorporate the aforementioned assets into its beef activities.

Weyl Beef Products was founded in 1977 and was the largest producer and processor of beef in the Netherlands. Before it went bankrupt, the company employed well over 600 personnel, of whom approximately 200 were temporary staff. VION will base its restart and the scope of its activities on the demand for beef and the supply of beef cattle. VION will start out with a limited number of permanent staff in indirect positions at the company. The number of production staff will be determined by contract and will be attuned to the scope of activities.
