24 Jul 2009 From now on Berg+Schmidt will be able to offer the feed industry a wider portfolio of lipids. As of 1 June 2009 the company has taken over all the products of the feed division of Loders Croklaan.

The disposition of the Business Unit Animal Nutrition is in line with Loders Croklaan strategy to focus further to become the leading supplier of oils and fats. In this context Loders Croklaan will continue it’s activities to supply oils and fats to the feed industry.

Berg+Schmidt has been operating in the field of feed fats and feed additives for over 50 years. Throughout the world the company offers the feed industry essential vegetable substances for healthy and profitable animal nutrition. Its extensive range includes the brand BergaFat, with its programme of rumen by-pass fat powders for ruminants and lecithinized fat powders for monogastric animals.
 
Loders Croklaan B.V. with its headquarters in the Dutch town of Wormerveer is a member of the IOI Group, one of the world’s biggest palm oil specialists. Since the company operates chiefly in the field of special oils and fats for the food industry, it has now transferred its animal feed division to Berg+Schmidt. From now on its international business will be continued by Berg+Schmidt.
 
The takeover has enabled Berg+Schmidt to add a number of Loders Croklaan products to its range. They include LodeStarTM CLAME - P10, a conjugated linoleic acid, LodeStarTM MST, a stabilizer for calf milk substitutes, LodeStarTM C16, a rumen-protected and highly concentrated C16:0 fatty acid which will in future be sold under the name Bergafat F-100 HP, and the medium-chain fatty acid LodeStarTM C8-10 P.

Earlier this week Loders Croklaan said they had achieved a new milestone by reaching the highest point of construction at the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. At 44 meter, the staircase of the new refinery is outlining the height of the new production facility that is targeted to start production in the spring of 2010. The new refinery and extra storage capacity offer more flexibility and a wider range of products for our customers. Next to palm-based products, the range will be extended with lauric products, such as palm kernel oil, and mixtures. The new facility is equipped to produce large volumes of enzymatically interesterified products.

Until recently, enzymatic interesterification (EI) was only possible at small scale and far more expensive than chemical interesterification. EI-production uses less chemicals and generates less waste water compared to chemical interesterification, making it a more eco friendly process. Innovations by IOI – Loders Croklaan have made it possible to produce EI-product at large scale and economic price levels, making this sustainable and environmental friendly production method accessible to the main market.
