Will Campbell’s buy snack giant Snyder's-Lance?
18 Dec 2017 --- Speculation is mounting that the Campbell Soup Company is in advanced talks to acquire leading US snack maker Snyder's-Lance Inc. Multiple US media reports how discussions between the two companies are developing and a deal looks very likely.
Campbell's has been moving into the snacks category amid falling soup sales. The company has been focusing on diversification for some time and has been involved with a long line of deals over the last five years to reshape the company’s portfolio for continued growth.
Like many other food and ingredients companies, Campbell is making a point of diversifying its portfolio in response to increased consumer interest in health, well-being and nutrition.
Back in 2012, Campbell acquired Bolthouse Farms, followed by organic baby-food company Plum and biscuit company Kelsen in 2013 and fresh salsa and hummus maker Garden Fresh Gourmet in 2015.
According to Reuters, the acquisition of Snyder's-Lance – whose brands include Snyder's of Hanover, Lance, Kettle Brand (US), Kettle Chips (UK), Cape Cod Potato Chips and many more – could be just around the corner.
However, neither company has made an official statement.
