Weekly Digest: Tetra Pak notes sustainability milestone, Arla Foods & Yeo Valley transaction unconditional

ADM announced that Kristy Folkwein, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, was recognized by Constellation Research on its 2019 Business Transformation 150 and Campbell Soup appointed Diego Palmieri as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, US Meals & Beverages, effective July 18, 2018.

Tetra Pak has achieved 50 percent renewable electricity consumption in just two years since its RE100 commitment. The company now obtains half of its global electricity supply from renewable sources, putting the company firmly on course to meet its RE100 commitment of using only renewable electricity across all global operations by 2030. In the past two years alone, the company’s use of renewable electricity has increased by a factor of 2.5, up from 20 percent in 2016. This has been achieved through a combination of initiatives, including the purchase of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) and solar power installations at its own facilities.

Kristy Folkwein, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at ADM, was recognized by Constellation Research on its 2019 Business Transformation 150, an elite list of executives leading business transformation efforts around the globe. The 2019 Business Transformation 150 identifies the world’s most influential executives across a variety of industries. “Since joining ADM in 2016, Kristy has done excellent work leading our 1ADM business-transformation initiative, which is helping to advance our strategy through common processes, standardized technology and reliable data,” says ADM Chairman and CEO Juan Luciano.

Campbell Soup has appointed Diego Palmieri as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, US Meals & Beverages, effective July 18, 2018. Palmieri will report to Roberto Leopardi, President, Meals & Beverages. As Chief Marketing Officer, he will be responsible for all aspects of marketing and consumer connection in the US across the division’s portfolio of brands, which includes Campbell’s, Chunky, Well Yes!, Slow Kettle, Swanson, V8, Plum, Pace and Prego. Palmieri joins Campbell from SC Johnson, where he spent more than two decades in various business roles and nearly half his career in marketing. He was most recently general manager of the company’s Greater China business (China, Hong Kong and Taiwan).
Bunge Limited has appointed Mark Zenuk to its Board of Directors, effective July 17, 2018. Zenuk, 51, has served as Managing Partner of Tillridge Global Agribusiness Partners, an agribusiness private equity firm, since 2016. Prior to Tillridge, he was a Managing Director at NGP Energy Capital Management (NGP), where he led NGP’s agribusiness investment platform from 2010 to 2016. Before joining NGP, he served in many domestic and international executive leadership roles with ADM, having most recently led ADM’s oilseed business unit. Before joining ADM in 1999, he served as General Manager of the Commodity Marketing Group for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and Marketing Manager for the Canadian Wheat Board.
FlavorHealth, a flavor company focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of natural solutions for taste enhancement, has announced the appointment of two key team members. Ajay Chandran has been appointed as Vice President of Commercialization will be principally responsible for guiding efforts to commercialize the company's expanding portfolio of natural taste enhancement solutions. The company also announced the appointment of a Senior Account Manager – West Coast, Frank Lam. Lam brings over 20 years of sales and marketing experience having served most recently as a Regional Account Manager for MycoTechnology. During his tenure at MycoTechnology, Lam successfully developed and managed the company's global sales strategy.

Following the announcement, earlier this year of the partnership between Arla Foods and Yeo Valley on liquid milk, butter and cheese, the UK Competition and Markets Authority has approved the deal following a Phase 1 investigation. The transaction is now unconditional. Arla Foods says they look forward to legal completion and to working together on growing the Yeo Valley organic dairy brand in the UK. Commenting on the announcement, Ash Amirahmadi, Managing Director, Arla Foods UK, says: “This is significant news for our business, the industry and our farmer-owners. We want to maximize the growth in organic dairy products and continued investment in the Yeo Valley and Arla brands will be key to this. We particularly want to extend a warm welcome to the dairy farmers within the Coombe Farm Milk Pool who are partner suppliers to Waitrose Duchy Organic. Our cooperative beliefs and values are aligned and we look forward to working closely in the coming months.”
The American Dairy Science Association (ADSA) has announced that Sanjeev Anand is the 2018 recipient of the International Dairy Foods Association Teaching Award in Dairy Manufacturing. The award was presented on Monday, June 25, 2018, during the awards ceremony at the ADSA Annual Meeting in Knoxville, Tennessee. The International Dairy Foods Association Teaching Award in Dairy Manufacturing was created to recognize outstanding teaching of undergraduate students in dairy foods. The winner must have demonstrated outstanding ability as a teacher of undergraduate students of dairy foods in an accredited college or university and be an active teacher when nominated with not less than a total of ten years of active teaching preceding. The winner must also be and have been a member of ADSA for at least five successive years. ADSA also announced Paul Kindstedt as the 2018 recipient of the International Dairy Foods Association Research Award in Dairy Foods Processing.
