Expressions Aromatiques obtains FSSC 22000 certification
29 May 2018 --- Specializing in the development and production of flavors for the food and beverage industry, Expressions Aromatiques places the issue of food safety at the heart of its concerns and principal investments, according to the company. As a result, in 2014 the company has made an overall investment of €6 million (US$6.9 million) to expand and renovate the R&D labs and the production workshops, creating an appropriate environment, safekeeping the operatives and ensuring the highest products quality. Concurrently, Expressions Aromatiques has been certified ISO 22000 and this international standard sets out the requirements for a food safety management system.
This year marks a turning point in the history of Expressions Aromatiques as the company has obtained the FFSC 22000 Food Safety System Certification. This standard, which is fully recognized by the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative), allows Expressions Aromatiques to strengthen their food security management system. It will also tackle topical and emerging thematic such as how to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from acts of intentional adulteration of the food supply chain (Food Fraud & Food Defense).
Finally, the FSSC 22000 certification allows Expressions Aromatiques to observe the main safety standards and thus, to continue offering authentic and high-quality products to our clients, as well as ensuring the complete safety of those products for the final consumer.
Daniel Buisson, Commercial & Marketing Director, tells FoodIngredientsFirst: “Over the past few years, Expressions Aromatiques has focused on industrial equipment and infrastructure development to boost future growth. It started back in 2014 with an overall investment of €6 million (US$6.9 million), which enabled a 3,000 m² expansion of the production area, new weighing stations, a new positive cold room and additional warehouses.”
“Since then, we have also invested in two new GEA spray dryers: a pilot spray dryer for testing and sampling, as well as an MSD spray dryer, to cope with the increasing demand for spray-dried flavors,” he notes. “For the last four years, our R&D department has been working on extending the shelf life of spray dried flavors to 24 months. This new spray-drying tower is ST2 classified (explosion hazard control). Hence it is possible to produce more intense and more concentrated spray dried flavors.”
“The final applications are numerous and diversified: premixes for bakery, biscuits and pastry; instant powder drinks; culinary aids and condiments; dietary supplements, health foods and nutritional products,” Vincent Carpentier, R&D Director explains.
“Recently, a €2 million (US$2.3 million) investment was made in a new extrusion system, as part of our project on flavors encapsulated by extrusion. The investment concerns a pilot device as well as an industrial extruder,” notes Carpentier. “This new CLEXTRAL equipment has been implemented with the help of an engineer recruited specifically for this project. The whole project was carried out in partnership with the CEMEF laboratory (Centre of Material Forming) which is a part of the research center and engineering school Mines ParisTech, for the development of a new range of extruded flavors. An international patent was also registered in 2014.”
Expressions Aromatiques will continue developing its flavors library as well as offering innovative and custom-made solutions following client specifications.
