Craft Beer Trend Gathers Pace as Tesco Expands Range
18 Oct 2016 --- Tesco is piloting a chilled beer and cider delivery service in trendy parts of London popular with hipsters. It comes at the same time as the supermarket is seriously expanding its range of craft beers from just two to more than 30.
“Craft beer is the fastest growing drinks trend in the UK right now. Increasingly seen as the drink of choice for both men and women, these thirst-quenching beers are resonating with a new type of discerning younger drinker, looking for a great range of aromas, tastes and artisanal brews,” says Tesco buying manager for beer, Peter Bexton.
“We’ve tried to curate a fantastic range for our Express stores, making it even easier for shoppers to find their beer of choice locally, whilst also helping to attract even more converts.
“The new range will include craft beers for all tastes - from the wonderfully refreshing, slightly fruity flavor of the UK’s No 1 craft beer BrewDog Punk IPA to the beautifully malty Brooklyn Lager and even the rich Innis & Gunn Oak Aged Beer.”
The Express extended range will include a new beer by Scottish based BrewDog called Elvis Juice. Some of the most popular and unusual craft beers that will be rolled out from next week will include: BrewDog - Punk IPA, Innis & Gunn - Original, Sierra Nevada, Blue Moon, BrewDog - Dead Pony Club, Brooklyn Lager, Innis & Gunn Lager, Fruli Strawberry Beer, St Austell - Korev, Anchor Steam Beer and Flying Dog - Snake Dog.
In addition to changes with Craft beer, Tesco is also trialing a chilled beer and cider delivery service which is available to Tesco.com customers living in South East London, Bromley and Dartford in Kent.
In a special report from FoodIngredientsFirst earlier this year, we reported how the European and US craft beer sectors have exploded in the last ten years and how in fact micro is now mainstream, as highlighted by recent acquisitions of craft brewers by the big players in the industry.
