World Dairy Summit: Consumer confidence in dairy foods a key priority

13 Oct 2017 --- Maintaining consumer confidence in the safety and integrity of dairy products is a key priority for the industry on a global scale. Global demand for dairy products is rising and the popularity of nutritious dairy products remains strong. Consumer expectations on food safety are high and food safety will be a key topic discussed in depth at the forthcoming World Dairy Summit in Belfast. The summit will be hosted by the UK National Committee of the International Dairy Federation (IDF) and will take place in Belfast from October 30 to November 2, 2017. 

Valio set to unveil new “tailor-made solutions” for dairy customers at Anuga

04 Oct 2017 --- Global food ingredients manufacturer Valio will showcase the latest developments in its tailor-made solutions for food ingredients customers during Anuga, created in response to growing demand for innovative solutions. The company, which provides dairy from Finland, supplies to some of the world’s biggest producers in 60 markets. Its solutions range from lactose-free and baby food to ingredients for the pet food and health supplements industry.

Danone launches 100 percent natural yogurt range in France

Le Danone Nature range includes 100 percent French milk, 100 percent natural ingredients, available in both natural and flavored versions, and the recipe of Danone’s new brand brings together indulgence, health and responsibility.

US food industry calls on Trump to tackle geographical indications trade concerns

04 Oct 2017 --- Concerned US food industry groups representing farmers and food manufacturers have send a letter to President Donald Trump urging the US to immediately impress upon Japan, Mexico and the Mercosur nations that the lists of geographical indications (GIs) they are considering for approval with the EU must not include “common” food and beverage terms such as “parmesan,” “vintage” and “bologna.”

Kerry becomes first milk processor to achieve certification of milk suppliers

02 Oct 2017 --- Kerry has become the first major milk processor to achieve 100 percent certification of its milk suppliers in Ireland under the Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme. The company announced that it has completed the certification of all its 3,300 milk suppliers under the internationally accredited, Sustainable Dairy Assurance Scheme (SDAS). The first national program of its kind, SDAS is a comprehensive quality and sustainability program that independently audits performance at farm level every 18 months. 

European dairy exports on track for records, but growth potential remains, claims EDA

Fonterra confirms Murray Goulburn bid along with “solid” year-end results

27 Sep 2017 --- Dairy cooperative Fonterra has confirmed that it has lodged a bid for Australia’s largest dairy processor, Murray Goulburn, and also released its full-year results. A number of groups are believed to have made offers for the struggling company, but Fonterra was the first to confirm its interest on the back of a successful business year.

Schumacher to succeed Joosten as FrieslandCampina CEO

27 Sep 2017 --- Royal FrieslandCampina N.V. will appoint Hein Schumacher as Chief Executive Officer of the dairy company from January 1, 2018. Hein Schumacher will succeed Roelof Joosten, who will resign as Chief Executive Officer. The news comes several weeks after Royal FrieslandCampina N.V. announced plans to simplify the organization into four global business groups: Consumer Dairy, Specialised Nutrition, Ingredients and Basic Dairy.

Arla launches organic milk in the Middle East

26 Sep 2017 --- Arla Foods has launched its first branded organic milk in the Middle East, the company’s biggest strategic growth market outside Europe, marking a significant milestone in its growth agenda. The launch of Arla Organic Milk in the UAE forms part of the farmer-owned company’s ambitious business strategy, which is to become the number one organic dairy brand in the Middle East and North Africa by 2020.

Global Dairy Trade launches US lactose multi-seller pool

26 Sep 2017 --- Global Dairy Trade, the world’s leader in global dairy trading, is broadening its services by hosting its first multi-seller pool which will offer US-sourced standard lactose products during the GDT Trading Event on 5 December 2017. The companies participating in the pool are three of the leading US lactose producers: Agropur Inc, Hilmar Ingredients and Valley Queen Cheese. Several others have expressed interest in taking part early next year.

Fonterra’s GDT explores EEX dairy auction tie-up

05 Sep 2017 --- Fonterra Cooperative Group’s online auction platform Global Dairy Trade (GDT) is looking to join forces with the European Energy Exchange (EEX) to set up and operate an auction mechanism for dairy products originating in Europe. The two companies have signed a Letter of Intent to evaluate the possibility of working together.

Arla expands footprint in Ghana to supply nutritional dairy to African consumers

30 Aug 2017 --- Arla is adding another market to its Sub-Saharan Africa business region by establishing a new sales and packaging facility in Ghana. The new subsidiary will begin selling Arla’s branded dairy products in Ghana from September 2017 in response to growing demand for nutritious dairy products.

Sports nutrition market expected to grow by US$5.5bn in 2021

Indian-French JV plans new dairy plant

15 Aug 2017 --- One of the largest private sector dairy enterprises in Southern India, Heritage Foods, has joined forces with French dairy firm Novandie to set up a 50:50 joint venture, for a new dairy plant in France. Novandie, a subsidiary of French Food company Andros, and Heritage Foods will manufacture flavored yogurts and desserts, according to reports in the Indian press.

Emmi sells its stake in Venchiaredo S.p.A. to concentrate on desserts & exports

31 Jul 2017 --- Emmi is selling its 24 percent stake in Italian fresh cheese specialist Venchiaredo S.p.A., which is based in Ramuscello and generates sales of approximately €20 million (US$23.4 million). In doing so, Emmi is focusing its activities in Italy on the dessert business, cheese exports from Switzerland and its 25 percent stake in cheese trader Ambrosi S.p.A.
