Pulsar Network Capital Starts New €75M Sustainable Food Fund
07 Oct 2014 --- Independent Dutch private equity firm Pulsar Network Capital, which specializes in healthy & sustainable food and nutrition, is pleased to announce its new Sustainable Food Fund; a new growth capital fund with fund capital of €75 million (approx. US$ 94M) focused on investing in innovative and growing companies that will make the food and nutrition supply chain healthier, safer, more efficient and more sustainable.
This is the first fund in Europe with a 100% focus on healthy and sustainable food.
Primary goal of the fund is to invest in 15 to 25 innovative and growing companies in the market segments: sustainable food, nutrition, foodtech and agritech. These companies must to have the potential to provide a valuable and profitable contribution to a healthy, transparent and sustainable food chain. Because the team at Pulsar Network Capital believes is convinced that this will result in a more sustainable and healthier food pattern.
That’s why the Sustainable Food Fund will only participate in promising companies with a highly profitable business model and a focus on the creation of social and/or sustainable innovations in the international food industry. By using their industry knowledge and hands-on investment methodology, the fund management expects to successfully turn its portfolio companies into international players and market leaders.
Frank Wolterink (Investment Partner) says: “Everyone is looking for a food investor but most general firms do not really have the time for this sector. It needs more dedicated, specialised investors but as far as we know there are hardly any dedicated food investors and none looking at sustainability and healthy food specifically. That is an important them with us because we think that’s the future!”
The market for healthy food will grow with over 20% annually and will reach US$ 1 trillion by 2017(*). The new fund is one of the first specialized funds in this growth market and as such offers a fruitful basis for healthy returns on investment. Besides a financial return, the Sustainable Food Fund also offers a Return-on-Impact in four areas: sustainability, social entrepreneurship, innovation and health.
To succeed in achieving its goals and ambitions, the management team of Pulsar Network Capital has been expanded with a senior partner who brings over 25 years of management and leadership experience within the food industry. Over the last few months, the team has been further expanded by two experienced investment partners. Both have built up a successful investment management track-record at leading Dutch investment firms such as ING Bank, NPM Capital, PPM Oost and Van Lanschot Bankiers.
The Sustainable Food Fund is now open to the participation of HNWIs, family offices and institutional investors from around the globe.
