Dutch Food Dryer Helps Producers with Waste
28 Sep 2016 --- Producers of fresh produce can now tap into extracting high quality substances from their waste streams with a new innovation from TOP bv.
The Netherlands-based innovation company is introducing a compact food dryer especially for producers of fresh fruit, vegetables and potatoes, who want to valorize waste flows.
TOP bv says that although this has not been a priority for producers, its new food dryer makes the process a lot easier. Drying is a suitable and straightforward technique because it gives the product a longer shelf life and keeps it stable.
Conventional food dryers cover a large area, too large for most producers and that is why many companies tend to avoid processing waste streams. However, for economic reasons and from a sustainability perspective, it is an important step for a lot of food producers to be able to add value to their waste streams.
The machine has the same capacity as the large, heavy-handed food dryers, but occupies only a small area in the factory. This makes the processing of waste streams more accessible for many companies. The first compact food dryers have already been put into use, according to TOP bv.
